THE PASSING OF LYTTON'S BROTHER

January 25, 2019

What a shock! I got a text from Ashley at 3:00 am saying that Lytton's brother, Matt Bastian, suddenly passed away. We couldn't believe it. He was only 44 years old! We thought at first that he had died of a heart attack but when they autopsy came back he had died from a blood clot!

He worked for the railroad and had been out in El Paso, Texas and had Marco Polo'd the whole family showing them the border wall and Ashley had sent a Marco Polo back showing their family some cute things that Kenzie was doing and he had looked at that Marco Polo at 7:03 pm and he passed away at 7:30 pm. He had been at dinner with his managers and he felt fine. As they were walking in the parking lot to their car, he mentioned that he was having a hard time breathing and then he collapsed. They immediately started trying to resuscitate him but to no avail. He was gone. It's so sad. Just so sad!

It hurts me so much for Lytton, his parents, and for Matt's family, Angie and his 3 kids. I pray for them to find comfort in this shocking loss. Lytton's other brother, David died 5 years ago, almost to the day (2 days difference), also of a blood clot. It's just something a mother should not have to endure, losing a child and now two. It breaks my heart for Christine, and for the whole Bastian family.

Matt was a great guy. He was loud and the life of the party. He was a family man, a hard worker and a great son. He will truly be missed. We are still just so shocked and can't really grasp this news.

Matt's funeral was on his 45th birthday. It was a great memorial and everyone felt and said the same things about Matt. How loud and fun he was, how tough he was physically and what a hard worker he was and how much he loved and adored his family, and they knew it. I'm so happy that I got to know him. It's going to be hard this Spring when they do the cow branding because that was his job. He loved branding and he loved helping with the cattle drive. Lytton and Lynn are going to really feel the loss of him because he was so much help to them.

Me, Diane and Mom drove up to Arimo for the funeral in a horrible snow storm, and the power was out at the Stake Center during the first part of the viewing but then the sun came out, the power came on and it was a lovely, fully packed Stake Center and Diane kept saying, " I have never seen so many flowers at a funeral!" I was impressed that even his Graduation Class sent a beautiful bouquet. It was just awesome!

Afterwards we went and ate at Flagg's West, along with half the people at the funeral. It's the gathering spot in Downey really. I was so happy that Diane and Mom joined me in coming to the funeral. I really appreciated that.

Every time I go to a funeral I love hearing about the life of the person and I always leave wanting to be a little better. Life is so fragile and we just never know when our time is up. We have to LIVE! We have to have no regrets. We have to have great relationships and hold no grudges and we need to spend as much time as we can with the ones we love, because we never know when it's our time to go!
