We woke up and got packed up and finished our tour of PHILADELPHIA. We drove over the Ben Franklin Bridge to Camden, New Jersey and came right back. I went to the FIRST POST OFFICE that Ben Franklin opened, and then to see his GRAVE. Then we drove out to see something Boston asked me to see for him and that was the PHILADELPHIA EAGLES STADIUM. We didn't know it, but right next to it was the 76ERS STADIUM and the PHILLY'S STADIUM. We had to go back to READING TERMINAL for lunch and let's face it...really to get a dozen more of those awesome DONUTS from BEILERS!! Then, me and Joyce had quite the experience trying to get gas in the car rental and returning it at the airport and riding the shuttle back to the hotel where we would meet up with our CHURCH HISTORY TOUR!!
Here are my pics for the day:
This was inside the post office. I was so excited to send my Grandkids, friends and my co-workers a post card from here because this is the only Post Office in the U.S. that has a postmark stamp that says:
"B FREE FRANKLIN" on it. But they had a really rude lady working here!
We could hear the team practicing in the back. They were yelling and getting excited for tomorrow's first home game since being Super Bowl Champs. They were having a huge celebration in Philly with a parade. We were SO SAD we would miss the game!
Here's to you Boston!!
I just turned around and here was the PHILLY'S STADIUM. So crazy they are right next to each other!
And I turned again and saw the 76ers STADIUM. I was totally amazed!
Then we went over the BEN FRANKLIN BRIDGE:
And then to the CEMETERY to see BEN FRANKLIN'S GRAVE:
You know how Ben Franklin came up with saying "A PENNY SAVED, IS A PENNY EARNED"?
Well, every year thousands of people stop by his grave and throw a penny on it. Each year they collect over $5,000 worth of pennies and that is how they maintain the cemetery. Cool!
There are several signers of the Declaration of Independence buried in this cemetery.
Look how old some of these headstones are!
This is Benjamin and Deborah Franklin's headstone.
I had to get a pic of Debbie throwing her penny on the grave!
This was the last night of our little SIDE TRIP to PHILLY and now we have to gear up to our 10 DAY CHURCH HISTORY TOUR!!
